What is a likeness license?

A likeness license is written permission to use a real person’s likeness (their face, body or voice) in specific content. On ICONS a license names one brand and product, the assets, the channels, the territory and the dates. Anything not named is not included: no posts, endorsements, paid ads or access to followers unless the quote says so.

What a license on ICONS spells out

The brand and product it covers. The assets the likeness may appear in. The channels, the territory and the term (30 days by default, starting at final delivery). Which modalities are allowed: face, body and voice can each be excluded. Exclusions the creator set, such as alcohol or politics.

How it differs from usage rights on a post

Usage rights usually let a brand reuse content a creator already made. A likeness license lets the brand create new content that depicts the person, so it needs tighter limits, explicit consent and approval of the final file.

Consent is personal

The creator personally signs the likeness consent for each campaign. An agency can negotiate and sign the commercial terms it is authorized for, but it cannot sign the likeness consent for the creator.

Questions

How long does a likeness license last?

On ICONS the default term is 30 days from final delivery. A longer term or extra territory is a separate, priced right in the quote.

Can a brand use the likeness in paid ads?

Only if the quote names paid ads. Paid usage is never included by default.

Can I exclude my voice?

Yes. Face, body and voice can each be excluded, and exclusions are part of your profile and enforced on every booking.
