AI influencers and likeness licensing, explained

AI likeness licensing is written permission from a real person to use their face, body or voice in AI-generated content. On ICONS, a license names one brand and product, the assets, channels, territory and dates (30 days from final delivery by default). The person personally signs consent for each campaign and approves the script and the final file. Anything not named is not included.

What an “AI influencer” can mean

  • A real creator whose likeness is licensed for AI-generated content. This is what ICONS is built for.
  • A virtual influencer: a fictional persona. ICONS lists these only when a verified adult owns the persona rights, and always labels them virtual.
  • A synthetic “lookalike” of a real person made without permission. ICONS does not support this.

What a license covers

  • The brand and product it is for.
  • The assets the likeness may appear in, and which modalities are allowed: face, body and voice can each be excluded.
  • The channels, territory and term (organic brand channels, US, 30 days by default). Paid ads, exclusivity, longer terms and wider territories are separate, priced rights.
  • The creator’s exclusions, such as alcohol or politics.

What it never includes by default

A post, an endorsement, paid ads or access to the creator’s followers, unless the quote names them. No general AI model training, no reusable likeness or voice model without a separate written consent, and no perpetual license.

How a licensed AI campaign runs

  • The brand requests the creator and chooses who produces: ICONS with approved vendors, the creator, or their agency.
  • Everyone signs the exact quote; the creator signs the likeness consent personally.
  • The script is approved before anything is generated. Previews are watermarked.
  • The creator and brand approve the final file; only that exact file is released.
  • The license is paid out once the approved assets are delivered and the term starts.

How pricing works

Each creator sets their own rates and every line on their profile says what it includes. ICONS suggests starting rates when a creator joins (post rates come from the creator’s typical recent views; with fewer than 5 comparable recent posts a post is quote-only), and the creator accepts or edits them before anything is public.

A brand’s total is itemised: the likeness license, any posts, any extra rights (paid ads, exclusivity, a longer term or a wider territory), the production price and the ICONS platform fee. The platform fee is charged to the brand, never taken from the creator’s rate; the pilot default is 15% of the license, post, extra-rights and creator- or agency-production fees, and it is not applied to the price of ICONS-produced content, tax or refunds (see the Terms).

Requests are free. Nothing is charged until every party has signed the exact quote. Each part is paid out to the creator when it is earned, and 20% of posting pay is held until the post has stayed live for the agreed period (30 days by default).

Where it is today

Status: ICONS is an invite-led US pilot for verified adults (18+) and non-explicit commercial campaigns, priced in US dollars. Payments, e-signatures and identity checks are live: brands pay through Stripe, and creators are paid through Stripe after the work is verified.

Questions

Is it legal to use a person’s likeness in AI ads?

Using a real person’s likeness in advertising generally needs their permission; many US states protect a right of publicity. A signed license that names the use is how ICONS handles this. This is general information, not legal advice.

How much does an AI likeness license cost?

Each creator sets their license rate, and the profile says exactly what it covers. Paid ads, exclusivity, longer terms and wider territories are priced separately, and the brand pays the ICONS platform fee on top.

Can the creator exclude their voice?

Yes. Face, body and voice can each be excluded, and exclusions are enforced on every booking.

Does ICONS train AI models on creators?

No general model training, and no reusable likeness or voice model without a separate written consent.

How should AI content be disclosed?

Follow the platform’s AI-content labels and advertising disclosure rules. Posts booked on ICONS carry the required disclosures.
